Here is my speculative timeline for the upcoming iPhone event:

9/30 - iOS 5 Golden Master released to Developer network. This is the final version of the software that will be released publicly. It coincides with their standard Friday releases of iOS 5 beta releases.

10/4 - iPhone Event. New device showcased. It’s hard to make any assumptions about the hardware changes, but out of everything, expect improved cameras, new A5 processors, 1GB of RAM, better battery, front and back LED status light, thinner. Maybe wider, but the screen will stay the same, as all of the apps have remained native to a standard resolution. No more glass back. Pre-orders begin today at the earliest (though unlikely) and at the end of the week at the latest. The phones will ship by the end of October, which in Apple talk, means 10/31.

10/4 - iOS 5 is publicly released to everyone. Expect iTunes and OS X Lion 7.2 updates as well to integrate with the new iCloud services. Expect long download times to get the software, and long upload times to export your iTunes library for iTunes Match.

10/4 - Don’t expect Steve Jobs to present. Appearance, maybe. Most likely, a speech will be made.

10/7 - iPhone 5 Preorders begin at 4am EST. Everyone refreshes the order page 100 times each bringing the site to a crawl.

10/7 - 9am EST, preorders now have a shipping time of 4 weeks. This may be greatly exaggerated as Apple has been pumping out new devices in the productions line in preparation for this.

10/10 - Your patience is finally depleted and you order the new phone, even if it means 10 more weeks worth of waiting for it to ship.

10/31 - If you are lucky, your new phone arrives. You send the kids out trick or treating by themselves so that you can get it all set up and prepare for the transition. It’s also smart to prepare for the transition to the next device after that. And the one after that.

11/1 - All of the people that pre-ordered rush home to cancel their pre-orders when it’s discovered that their local shop has 2 remaining phones in stock.

My family and I have been mourning.

My family and I have been mourning.

My hero

Steve Jobs resigned from Apple Inc. today.

My hero has stepped down. This upsets me greatly. He was someone that I looked up to as a leader (business wise) and he appreciated the level of detail to which I do.

With the stock at $376.18 and the market closed this evening, I can’t help but wonder what my stocks are going to look like over the course of the day tomorrow.

But that doesn’t really matter right now.

The fact is, my hero is hanging up the cape.

I have always be in love with the idea of minimalism. I prefer design to be minimal. There has always been a certain charm of doing the best with least amount possible.

I prefer less to more.

Something that I have always admired is the people that live minimal lifestyles. The people that own just the things that they needed. No clutter. No fuss. Making use of the fewest things possible.

Unfortunately, while I may think of myself as a minimalist mentally, I am not in practice. I tend to let clutter come into my life and hang on for far too long. The urge to collect something comes about every now and then and I have to talk myself out of it every time. And I’m always better off because of it. Something has to be said for being able to pick up up and go at any notice, without having the anchor of “stuff” weighing you down.

The biggest antagonist to this movement for me is my strong consumer tendencies. I love to buy shit. I am a smart consumer, but I love spending money on stuff. And as much as I love having this stuff, I sometimes wonder if I could still be just as happy living with the fewest number of things possible in smaller home. Doing the one pair of denim for one year was a step in the right direction for preparing my mind for thinking and doing things more minimally. Not only was this about fashion, it was about having myself do something minimal for an entire year.

And so far, I haven’t been happier with how this project has turned out. It makes me curious how other parts of my life would be affected if I were to treat everything like I have my jeans.

“The stuff you own, ends up owning you.” - Tyler Durden

Photovine: Social Photo Trends

I love photo apps and this is filled with people who do nothing but share photos.

My biggest complaint so far? No Tumblr integration.

But no worries, I’ve already emailed the devs to try and work out a solution to possibly integrate it with.

It’s what I do. Just the other night, I emailed Turntable.FM’s developers about adding in Last.FM scrobbling.

Dev’s like getting feedback on feature requests. It helps keep the product and services fresh. If you’re a passionate and caring consumer and user, you leave feedback and come up with ideas on how to make it better.
